A few months ago I had the pleasure of having my great friend and wonderful singer Sam Lee in the studio with me, to overdub some shakuhachi on a track from his new album Old Wow. It was a special day and I’d love to share this track with you, and encourage you to listen to the whole album.
Sam wrote this short description of the song I recorded with him:
“Jasper Seas is a Suffolk folksong from the singing of Jumbo Brightwell. It is at least 200-300 years old, maybe more. It was adapted by myself and James Keay on piano. I wanted to capture the expansiveness of the North Sea and the shakuhachi felt the perfect instrument to capture both the character of the sea in all its voices, and to explore the emotions that run through this tiny telling of a massive story.”

Há alguns meses, tive o prazer de ter o maravilhoso cantor folk Sam Lee no estúdio comigo, para fazer um overdub de shakuhachi em uma faixa de seu novo álbum Old Wow. Foi um dia especial e gostaria de compartilhar a faixa com vocês, e também esta breve descrição escrita por Sam:
