The shakuhachi is an instrument that really comes into its own when played as a solo instrument.
It has its own repertoire of solo pieces, the Honkyoku, that originated within an ancient Zen tradition of playing the shakuhachi and meditating. Adrian spent seven years in Japan immersed in learning these pieces, as well as composing new pieces for shakuhachi. The album Music on the Edge of Silence reflects something of this journey, from ancient roots to new flowerings.
